CONSERVATION AND HARVESTING PLAN FOR THE SOUTHERN

GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE SPRING HERRING FISHERY

Moncton, NB April 28, 2020 Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced today the spring southern Gulf of St. Lawrence herring (Herring Fishing Areas 16A to G and 17) Conservation and Harvesting Plan for the 2020 season. The commercial fishery will open on 29 April, 2020. Licences will be available in the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) shortly.

Given that the herring spring stock biomass remains in the critical zone according to the precautionary approach, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) will be set at 500 t for 2020. Other than mandatory hail-in in the bait fishery for Gulf Region fish harvesters and gear marking in all fisheries, management measures announced in 2019 remain in place in 2020.
