2025 LFA 26A PEI SPRING LOBSTER FISHERY OPENING DATE VOTE
• Ballots were counted on JANUARY 27TH, 2025 by 6 scrutineers at the Farm Centre, Charlottetown.
• 169 returned questionnaires out of a total of 342 LFA 26A commercial lobster license holders. This
equates to a 49% return rate. Of the 169 returns, there was 1 spoiled questionnaire.
Also, note there was a postal strike during the original timeframe outlined in the mailout. As a result, the
deadline was extended by approximately 6 weeks to compensate for the strike timeframe as well as
factoring in the holiday mail. All questionnaires received during this extended timeframe were accepted.
1. Which opening (setting) date would you prefer in the LFA 26A lobster fishery?
o 54 votes for April 30th opening date (32%)
o 114 votes for an earlier opening date (68%)
o Of the 114 votes for an earlier opening date, 65% voted for April 25th.
o 1 spoiled vote
As noted on the questionnaire, The PEIFA LFA 26A advisory committee will be moving forward on submitting
a request to DFO on an earlier opening of April 25th, for LFA 26A1 based on the majority of the votes cast.
