Update -April 14th - PEIFA Membership Survey preliminary results

On April 9th the PEI Fishermen's Association issued a survey to the membership requesting input on the upcoming 2020 Spring Lobster season. The following are the preliminary survey results.


The survey was completed by 775 harvester from LFA 24 and 26A  out of a total of 954 Spring fishers. This represents a response rate of 81.2%.  


3 Key questions and response rates, related to the Spring lobster season are as follows:    

 1) Are you comfortable taking your crew aboard your boat and interacting with your fish buyer while respecting the new public health recommendations (e.g. social distancing, boat strictly reserved for crew, cleaning etc.)?

       64.2% yes

       35.8% no


2) Considering what you know today on the current spread of COVID-19 (e.g. processing capacity, market price, health, government announcements) do you think we should proceed with a spring lobster season?

       56.8% yes
       43.2% no


3) Given the current situation, should the PEIFA request that DFO delay the opening of the 2020 Spring lobster season?

       70.3%  yes

       29.7% no
