The PEI Fishermen's Association will be focussing on many initiatives in the coming months to address the lobster fishery situation.  The following is an update of the initiatives and action items planned for the PEIFA:  (June 28th, 2013) 

1) Review of the Provincial study on the PEI Fishing industry being conducted by former Provincial Auditor General Colin Younker when completed and assess recommendations. Develop Action Plans as required.
2) Review recommendations of the Provincial Premiers Panel and assess recommendations. Develop Action Plans as required.
3) Research and meet with our members to discuss types of shore price mechanisms and what may work for PEI.
4) Provide information and support to interested organizations as to how various types of co operatives can be formed.
5) Continue to advocate for reopening of the low interest loan, extension of the program and opening the loan program for those that may now require the program. The establishment of ability to pay formula for those currently in the program is also required.
6) Complete the study on the PEI Fishermen's Lobster brand currently in progress and develop next steps.
7) Continue to look at current and additional PEI lobster promotional activities. Develop a more comprehensive promotional plan if supported by the members. Current programs include the featuring of PEI lobster in brochures, videos, tourist guidebooks, sponsorship of Lobster Party on the Beach during Fall Flavours, Participation in the Shellfish Festival, new development of the new tastepeilobster.ca web site.
8) Completion of the PEIFA Strategic Plan.
9) Assist in the development of additional lobster storage facilities by either local groups or a PEIFA led initiatives.
10) Organize an US / Canada Atlantic wide Lobster Harvester summit to discuss how better deal with the challenges in front of us.
