A notice to fishers was posted on October 17th which confirmed the use of electronic logbooks for both lobster and snow crab in the spring of 2025, for the Gulf region only. The PEIFA has developed an electronic log book, called Captains eLog, which is in the final stages of approval with DFO. As soon as it is available we will be advising all fishers in PEI. The electronic logbook will replace the use of the paper logbooks and will be mandatory for 2025. So no more use of paper log books.
The Captains eLog will provide secure transmission of data directly to DFO, be relatively easy to use (based on DFO’s required standard), downloadable to your phone, the price will be very competitive and training will be provided prior to the start of the season. All details to be confirmed once final approval of the app is completed.
