INFORMATION FOR ONLINE VOTE ON LFA 26A LOBSTER FISHERY OPENING DATE

The PEI Fishermen’s Association’s Lobster Fishing Area 26A Lobster Advisory Committee is seeking your input on the opening date of the spring lobster fishery in LFA 26A.

The LFA 26A1 opening date in 2025 was April 25th as per request from the fishing industry and decision by the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO). An earlier start has been implemented by the DFO for the past 3 years in this area.

Following the spring season, a roundtable of input was gathered from local advisory committee representatives at the PEIFA LFA 26A Lobster Advisory Committee Meeting in July.  The main source of feedback and discussion on current management measures centered on the timing of the opening date.

The LFA 26A Lobster Advisory Committee motioned to proceed with the following vote to gather updated feedback from all PEI LFA 26A commercial lobster fishers on this important topic. The aim of this vote is to provide this feedback to DFO in a timely manner for consideration for the coming season.  The Advisory Committee will be moving forward with the results of the majority of votes cast.

The vote is being conducted electronically.  Emails were sent to many PEI LFA 26A lobster fishers with an electronic link to the vote.  Additionally, the link is being shared via social media platforms including the PEIFA website www.peifa.org , Facebook page and private local harbour pages.

For those unable to access online voting, please contact the PEI fishermen’s Association directly at 902-566-4050 extensions 1 or 2 for assistance with completing your vote.  Please have your lobster license number and Fisher Identification Number (FIN) ready when you call to vote.  Individual survey results will be kept confidential. Information on name, lobster license number and FIN are only used for confirming eligibility for the vote.  Votes submitted without this information will not be counted.

Contact your local Advisory Committee representatives with any questions or further discussion.
