A conference call was held this morning with the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) as well as representatives from the PEI Fishermen's Association's Spring Herring Advisory and reps with the Maritime Fishermen’s Union (MFU), NB to discuss the opening of the 2015 spring herring fishery in HFA 16C&E.

The result was agreement to open of the fishery at 8AM, Wednesday, April 29th, 2015 under a 100T quota until Monday, May 4th.  On May 4th the full quota will be available.  DFO has also approved to remove the 24 hour Friday to Saturday closure noting that weekly limits (Sunday to Sunday) per fisher remain in place.

The DFO Variation Order confirming the management details noted above should be available by DFO by tomorrow (Tues).  The PEIFA will forward the Variation order to spring herring advisory reps and will post this to our website www.peifa.org as soon as this is released.

Any questions on the management plan please contact DFO Resource Manager, Pierre Mallet 506-851-7792.
