Moncton, New Brunswick – April 13, 2021 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada wishes to inform the public of the 2021 recreational groundfish fishing seasons in the waters adjacent to the Maritime Provinces in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Anglers will be able to retain, on any day, a total of fifteen (15) groundfish of all species in the aggregate except 0 (zero) Cod, White Hake, Skate, Haddock, Pollock, Atlantic Halibut, Northern Wolffish, Atlantic Wolffish, and Spotted Wolffish.
Anglers will be able to retain, on any day, a total of five (5) groundfish of all species in the aggregate except 0 (zero) Cod, White Hake, Skate, Haddock, Pollock, Atlantic Halibut, Northern Wolffish, Atlantic Wolffish, and Spotted Wolffish.
Anglers will be able to retain, in any day, a bag limit of 15 (fifteen) groundfish of all species including a total of not more than 5 (five) Cod and/or White Hake in the aggregate, and 0 (zero) retention of Skate, Atlantic Halibut, Northern Wolffish, Atlantic Wolffish, and Spotted Wolffish.
Both the southern Gulf cod and white hake stocks are in the critical zone of the precautionary approach framework. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as part of this framework, is currently developing rebuilding plans in consultation with industry stakeholders for both stocks. As a result, new management measures will be put in place over the next year to promote recovery of these depleted populations.
