Second Fishing Period - 2016 Prince Edward Island Atlantic Halibut Fishery  
 
Moncton, N.B. – September 1, 2016 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) today announces that fishing will be authorized for Prince Edward Island (PEI) fixed gear licence holders, with vessels less than 19.81 metres (65 feet) in overall length that have identified to fish Atlantic halibut during the second fishing period in 2016.   
 
INDIVIDUAL ALLOCATION: There is 11, 681 kg of quota remaining after the first fishing period.  This represents 25% of the initial quota.  The individual catch limit of 157 kg remains for this fishing period.  
SEASON: This fishing period will be 6 AM, Tuesday, September 6th to 6 PM, Thursday September 8th, with daily close times of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.  If more than 10% of the initial quota remains after September 8th, the next group of fishers from the list of eligible fishers will be eligible to fish during a third fishing period, scheduled for Tuesday September 13 to Thursday September 15.    
All other management measures are similar to first fishing period in 2016 including:  The maximum number of hooks permitted to be fished or on board a vessel at any time is 300.  Maximum individual by-catch limit of 50kg of cod for each fishing period   100% Dockside Monitoring

The conditions of licence are now available to the licence holders. The Department wishes to remind licence holders that to be able to obtain their conditions, they need to attach an eligible vessel to their groundfish licence.
