Notice to Fish Harvesters 

16 F HERRING 

2024 SUMMER FISHERY 

Antigonish, NS – June 28, 2024 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) wishes to advise 16 F herring licence holders that 25 t of the 2024 16 F Fall herring quota is available for the Summer fishery. 

The Summer fishery will open from 18:00 hours July 1, 2024 until 12:00 hours August 16, 2024. There will be weekend closures from 12:00 hours Friday to 18:00 hours Sunday for all weekends while the Summer fishery is open. 

All fish harvesters must hail out to a Dockside Monitoring Company prior to 19:00 each evening before fishing. 

A maximum of 100 fathoms of nets are permitted to be fished with or have on board the vessel. 

Furthermore, it is reminded that, during the period where fishing is authorized, it is the responsibility of the licence holder to take into account the marine safety notices issued, among others, by Environment and Climate Change Canada and Transport Canada, as well as the standards and best practices in marine safety, and to take all measures to ensure a safe fishery. 

NEW IN 2024 

The voluntary use of an electronic logbook (ELOG) for Gulf Region harvesters is authorized in 

2024. Additional information are available on the following website: Electronic logbooks (ELOGS) (dfo-mpo.gc.ca) 

Harvesters must refer to the conditions of licence for compliance requirements.
