2016 PARTNERSHIP ARRANGEMENTS AND TAG AVAILABILITY
IN THE PEI BLUEFIN TUNA FISHERY
Charlottetown – July 15, 2016 - The Department of Fisheries and
Oceans (DFO), Gulf Region, wishes to advise that creating partnerships in the bluefin
tuna fishery for Prince Edward Island licence holders will be permitted in 2016. If you intend to enter into a partnership you
must contact the PEI Area Office at 165 John Yeo Drive, Charlottetown by phone
at 902-566-7844 or by email to chris.mills@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. The deadline to submit the request is July 28,
2016. Partnerships will not be created
after this date.

Details on partnerships are as follows:
· Partnership arrangements will be valid for the fishing period ending September 27 only.
·
To be eligible
to enter into a partnership arrangement, fishers
must have a commercial tuna licence and be eligible to receive a DFO issued
tuna tag.
·
A maximum of two
licence holders will be permitted to create a partnership.
·
Both fishers
must be in the vessel while fishing for tuna.
· Once a partnership is created, it can not be reversed until it expires after September 27, 2016.
Other details regarding the management plan will be released at a later date.
