CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN FOR HERRING FISHING AREA 16G
Moncton – July 15, 2011 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) today announced the details of the Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) for Atlantic herring in Herring Fishing Area (HFA) 16G.
The total 2011 summer and fall Atlantic herring allocation for HFA 16G has been set at 8508 mt. The opening date will be July 17, 2011, for the summer fishery on both the north and south side of HFA 16G with an allocation of 650 mt each. The remaining allocations, as illustrated in the attached procedure table, will be fished by all fish harvesters starting on August 28 for these two sub-zones.
In an effort to extend and better distribute the resource among the fish harvesters, the weekly limit in the fall season will be set at 34 mt per fish harvester, to be managed by an industry led overage plan.
Please refer to the attached procedure table summary of the CHP for further details concerning the management measures for this fishery.
