Notice to Fishers:

There is a new federal fuel charge which will be implemented in PEI as of July 1, 2023.
Fishers and farmers are currently exempt from paying the federal fuel charge
on gasoline and light fuel oil (e.g., diesel) used for eligible fishing and farming activities in provinces currently under the federal program. These exemptions will continue to apply to Prince Edward Island after July 1, 2023.  To be exempt you must complete an exemption certificate.

A declaration is required if the person is:

A fisher and all the following conditions are met:

    1. the fuel is for use exclusively in the operation of an eligible fishing vessel
    2. all or substantially all of the fuel is for use in the course of eligible fishing activities

Please see attached L403 E exemption form to be completed by fisher and provided to their fuel distributor.  The exemption certificate does not have to be filed with CRA, just to fuel distributor and fisher to keep copy for their records.
