Reminder to Fishers - RE: BAIT

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Conservation and Protection would like to remind all fishers who fish for herring/mackerel bait in the Province of Prince Edward Island of the following items;
Herring/mackerel bait licenses must be fished from a vessel with a valid registration from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans during the period in which that fishing activity takes place. Herring/mackerel bait licenses are not currently attached to the license holder’s specific vessel. Vessels and fishing gear used for fishing activity under a herring/mackerel bait license must display the proper Vessel Registration Number as per the Atlantic Fishery Regulations.

It is prohibited by condition of license for two herring/mackerel bait license holders to engage in activity under a herring/mackerel bait license with the same vessel during the same fishing trip or calendar day. It is also prohibited for a herring/mackerel bait license holder to fish with, or have on board, more than three gill nets, each no longer than 16.67 fathom. Herring/mackerel bait fishers are reminded that the Bait Monitoring Document must be completed by the license holder before entering port and be submitted to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as per condition of license.

Conservation and Protection will be strictly enforcing all conditions of license and regulations in the herring/mackerel bait fishery.

For any questions regarding license conditions, please consult your local fishery officer.
