Moncton – August 18, 2010
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is announcing that an amended Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) is approved for the PEI fixed gear fleet sector directing for the Atlantic Halibut fishery.
Given the great number of participants who registered for this fishery and following consultations with industry representatives, it was decided that the number of participants would not be limited, but the duration of the fishery and number of hooks will be reduced.
This fishery will take place over a period of 12 hours starting at 6:00 a.m. on August 31, 2010 and ending at 6:00 p.m. on August 31, 2010. This period may be modified due to inclement weather or other uncontrollable circumstances.
A maximum of 600 hooks will be permitted during this fishery. The allocation for the 4T Atlantic Halibut Prince Edward fixed gear fleet will be 23.2 metric tons in 2010.
Please refer to the attached amended CHP for more information.
