TRANSFER OF 4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT QUOTA
TO FIXED GEAR FLEETS LESS THAN 19.8 M

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) announces a temporary transfer of part of the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence Atlantic Halibut allocation (NAFO Divisions 4RST) from mobile gear fleets to fixed gear fleets less than 19.8 metres.
A 128 tonne Atlantic Halibut allocation is granted to the Gulf’s mobile gear fleets. Fleets using mobile gears are not currently allowed to direct their activities to this species.
As a result, the Department is transferring this year 108 t of Atlantic halibut from mobile gear fleets to fixed gear fleets.
The 20 t residual allocation will cover for Atlantic halibut by-catch for fisheries directed to other species by the mobile gear fleets. Sharing of the 108 t allocation will be done equally amongst the 8 fixed gear fleets, as shown in the following table:
