Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced today the spring Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence herring (Herring Fishing Areas 16A to G and 17) Conservation and Harvesting Plan. Given that the spring component of the stock remains at low levels, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) will be set at 1,250 t for 2019. For this year only, the management measures will remain the same as during the 2018 spring herring fishing season to continue the rebuilding of the spring component of this stock.
