2017 PARTNERSHIP
ARRANGEMENTS AND SEASON DATES
IN THE BLUEFIN TUNA FISHERY
Charlottetown – July 6, 2017 - The Department of Fisheries and
Oceans (DFO), Gulf Region, wishes to advise that creating partnerships in the
Bluefin Tuna Fishery for Prince Edward Island licence holders will be continued
for the 2017 season. If you intend to
enter into a partnership, you must fill out the attached form and return it to
the PEI Area Office at 165 John Yeo Drive, Charlottetown or by fax to
902-566-7848 or by email to derrick.cummiskey@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. The deadline to submit the form is July 26,
2017. Partnerships will not be created
after this date.
NEW FOR 2017 – Partnership arrangements will remain valid to December
31, 2017, unless you indicate on the attached form that you wish to end the
partnership on September 26th.
Season dates:
First Fishing Period – 5:00 hrs August 1, 2017 to
23:59 hrs September 26, 2017
Reallocation fishery – 5:00 hrs September 29, 2017 to
December 31, 2017 or when quota is caught.
Tuna tags will be available in person at the PEI Area
Office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning July 18th.
Details on partnerships are as follows:

Partnerships
will remain valid to December 31, 2017 unless DFO is otherwise notified
·
Once a
partnership is created, it will remain in place at a minimum until September
26, 2017.
·
To be eligible
to enter into a partnership arrangement, fishers
must have a commercial tuna licence and be eligible to receive a DFO issued
tuna tag.
·
A maximum of two
licence holders will be permitted to create a partnership.
·
Both fishers
must be in the vessel while fishing for tuna.
Other details regarding the management plan will be released at a later
date.
