LOBSTER MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR 2009 LFA25
 
 
Moncton – Further to the March 27, 2009, Notice to Fish Harvesters regarding southern Gulf Lobster Fishing Areas (LFA) Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Gulf Region, today provided the details of the management plan for LFA 25in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. 
 
The conservation measures from last year remain in place in 2009:
 
                     The minimum carapace size is 70 mm.
                     The maximum size for females is 114 mm.
                     The height of the escape mechanism is 40 mm.
                     The maximum diameter of hoop is 152 mm.
                     The possession of lobster and fishing gear is prohibited between 9:00 pm and one hour before sunrise.
                     Further to a request from industry stakeholders to avoid a Sunday opening, the season opening is set for 6:00 am August 10, 2009 (weather permitting) and the last day of fishing is October 10. 
 
All other management measures from 2008 remain in place for 2009.
