UPDATE FROM THE TUNA ADVISORY BOARD:
The following management plan recommendations have been submitted by the PEIFA Tuna Advisory Board to Department of Fisheries and Oceans for the 2012 PEI Tuna fishery:
The PEI Tuna fishery will proceed with a closing date of September 30th, 2012 before the possible re-allocation occurs pending available quota.
Active PEI Tuna fishers will be required to register for the reallocation draw through the PEIFA. The registration and draw date are to be determined. The draw for re-allocation will be open to all PEI tuna fish harvesters who were active during the primary 2012 tuna fishery (August 1st to September 30th, 2012). Those who fished the reallocation last year will not be eligible for this year’s reallocation with the exception of those fish harvesters drawn in 2011 that were unable to land a tuna . These fishers are required to be active in 2012. This eligibility criteria is for the 2012 fishery only.
Again, these recommendations have been submitted to DFO on behalf of the PEIFA Tuna Advisory.
