Important Notice: Last Round - 2017 Snow Crab Registration and Draw
Attention: All
Core fishers who have not won a previous snow crab allocation and meet the criteria
listed below. It is anticipated that the 2017 draw will include all remaining
core fishers who have not previously won the draw and meet the following
eligibility requirements.
Registrants must be a registered independent core fisher for 2017, and
have never held a Snow Crab License in Prince Edward Island, nor received an
allocation in any year, nor have purchased an enterprise that had been
associated with a Snow Crab license or received any allocation in any year, nor
the recipient of an allotment under Groundfish dependency or any other
fisheries.
The PEI Fishermen’s Association (PEIFA) will be holding a Registration
and Draw for core fishers wishing to participate in the Snow Crab Fishery
for 2017.
Fishers may apply in person at the PEIFA office, submit their registration
via fax at (902) 368-3748 or electronic mail to tagspeifa@eastlink.ca
In person registration will take place at the following locations:
10:00 to 4:00PM
Wednesday March 22nd 2017 – O’Leary Legion, O’Leary PE
Thursday March 23 2017 – Riverhouse Inn Montague, PE
Friday March 24 2017 – PEIFA Office 420 University Avenue,
Charlottetown, PE
Registrants must be in possession of their FIN number and personal
identification. Those unable to register in person may send a representative
with written permission authorizing him or her to register on the fisher’s behalf.
The representative must be in possession of the fisher’s FIN number and his or her
own identification.
All registrants will be requested to sign
and return a declaration regarding their eligibility which can be received by mail,
obtained from their local PEIFA representative or printed off from the PEIFA
website, www.peifa.org
If an eligible entrant misses the
registration deadline it will be a decision by the PEIFA Board of Directors
whether participation in the draw will be allowed.
The draw will be held on Friday March 24th, immediately following the
completion of the registration process. It is anticipated that approximately
140 of the first registrants drawn will receive an allocation of five (5) metric
tonnes of snow crab (11,020 lbs). Fishers selected in the Draw are subject to
confirmation by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) that they
meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the 2017 Snow Crab Fishery.
The Snow Crab registration fee for PEIFA Members is $115.00 (inclusive
of HST).
The registration fee for non-members of the PEIFA is $345.00 (inclusive
of HST).
