“The United States is in the midst of national elections.  Blissfully, they will be over soon.  When the votes are counted, our new President and Congress will begin organizing our government, announcing new policies and preparing a budget.  This happens every four years and is not unusual --- but these are no ordinary times.
          When face tectonic shifts in the world order: the complexity of our financial systems has grown beyond understanding, and, coupled with some of our baser human tendencies brought us to the brink of disaster, our addiction to oil is bleeding $400 billion each year from our economy; we are awakening to climate change; U.S popularity around the world is at a low point; and there are insidious new security threats unlike those in the past. ….”
