2018/2019 PEIFA LOBSTER FISHING AREA 25 QUESTIONNAIRE

The Prince County Fishermen’s Association (PCFA) was seeking input from LFA 25 PEI lobster fishers on their views on the curfew proposal.  The mailout vote was conducted in an effort to capture the views of all LFA 25 PEI lobster fishers. As stated in the ballot, PCFA will use the majority results of the vote (50% plus 1 of returned questionnaires) to move forward.  All management measures put forward will be subject to DFO approval.

  • Ballots counted on January 18th, 2019 by 5 scrutineers at the Farm Centre, Charlottetown.
  • 149 returned questionnaires out of a total of 213 LFA 25 commercial lobster licensed fishers.  This equates to a 70% return rate.

RESULTS:

  • 69 votes (46.3%) - Option A:  No Curfew – Status Quo
  • 78 votes (52.3%)  - Option B:  The Curfew Proposal: ‘that there be a curfew imposed throughout LFA 25 and that includes a definition of a fishing trip from 4:00 am to 9:00 pm, and that this fishing trip begins and ends at the participants port of attachment.’
  • 2 Spoiled ballots (1.3%)

The PEIFA and PCFA would like to thank all lobster license holders for their input.
