2022 16G Summer and Fall Herring Overage Program

The Summer and Fall Herring Fishing Area 16G Overage Program was updated in 2020, with updated waivers to be signed for all fishers and buyers participating in the program.

Any fishers or buyers who want to participate in this year's 2022 summer or fall herring HFA 16G fishery but have not signed the 2020 updated waivers, are asked to comply with the program by signing the form below and submitting it to the PEIFA.

The program has been successful for a number of years, through various updates and revisions and only thanks to the cooperation of local fishers and buyers who've worked together to make this system work for all.

It is understood that the Program will only continue to operate with the cooperation of all fish harvesters and buyers. Noncompliance by any fish harvester or buyer will cause an immediate cancellation of the Program and an immediate request for a closure of the fishery by DFO and a return to the previous weighing system by condition of license.

If you are unsure if you have signed the updated 2020 waiver to comply with the program, please contact the PEIFA at 1-902-566-4050 extension 3 and we can advise you if you are up to date. Any new fisher or buyer will need to sign as well.

We would like to remind everyone that the program operates with the co-operation of all harvesters and buyers.

It is understood that the 2022 catch limits as of the date of signing this Release are 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) per day during the summer fishery, and 15,000 pounds (6,804 kg) per day, to a maximum of 75,000 pounds (34,020 kg.) per week in the fall herring fishery. It is understood that in the North Lake area of HFA 16G that daily limits may diminish depending on the level of effort placed in that area. Overall limits in HFA 16G are subject to change from time to time and I agree that this Release shall continue to operate in accordance with the amended daily and weekly herring catch limits as set from time to time.
