The Prince Edward Island Fishermen's Association is joining the call for
additional staff and improved response times for Employement Insurance claim
processing.
Organization executives are receiving calls on increased wait times of up to
6 to 8 weeks before any monies are received.
This will create economic hardship for many Islanders during the holiday
season and beyond.
In addition, lower catches and lobster prices mean that more people
connected to the fishing community may require EI assitance than in past
years.
PEIFA President Mike McGeoghegan is requesting that "the federal government
to provide the resources necessary to restore processing times to
traditional levels".
