Notice to PEI LFA 25 & 26A Fish Harvesters

CAPTAINS/VESSELS FOR HIRE

The PEIFA is seeking 1 Captain in each LFA (25 & 26A) for the 2024/2025 PEIFA Marine Refuge Ecological Monitoring Program. One Captain per LFA will be chosen for each year (2024 & 2025) from a rotating list created from the 2024 draw.

Duties include assisting in Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) monitoring in priority areas within LFA 25 & 26A. ROV monitoring will take place on the best weather days throughout the summer and fall starting in July and ending in October 2024, on dates mutually agreed upon between the Captain and the PEIFA. Captains will need to sign a contract with the PEIFA and provide proof of marine insurance.

Registration Dates:  8:30 AM Thursday, July 5th, to 2 PM Friday, July 12th,  2024.  

Fee: No fee to register

DRAW:  A draw of qualified applicants will be made if more than 1 persons apply per LFA (25 & 26A).

Registrations after 2 PM, July 12th, 2024 will NOT be accepted.

The following are a list of details/qualifications for the participants:

· The goal of the project is to perform a focused ROV survey in priority areas for the purpose of improving existing knowledge and fill-in data gaps related to the conservation objectives of marine refuges (ie. scallop buffer zones SFA 22 and 24 to protect juvenile lobster habitat) in the Gulf Region.

· Fisher must be reliable and experienced in operating a fishing vessel.

· Fisher must be available for the best weather days in July 2024. Dates will be agreed upon by PEIFA Staff and the Captain.

· Vessel needs to meet all standard Transport Canada requirements.

· The Captain requires third-party liability insurance on his vessel (in the amount of $2,000,000.00 per occurrence on his vessel).

· The Captain will be required to sign a contract with the PEIFA (agreeing to the protocol, rate of pay and insurance).

· Captain must be willing to work closely with project staff including providing valuable feedback and troubleshooting throughout the project.

· A draw of qualified applicants will be made if more than 1 person applies.

· A per-hour rate of $442.35 will be paid for services under this project with the aim of 6 –10 hour days.
