September 30, 2014
A representative of the PEIFA was in attendance and the following message was sent from DFO advising on the reopening: Please note a copy of the variation order will be posted in the notice section of the website when available.
DFO met today, Sept 30th, 2014 in Stellarton with Herring Federation representatives and buyers regarding the remaining 247 t of HFA 16 F herring quota. Best estimate is that approximately 50 vessels are interested to participate in harvesting this remaining quota.
It was agreed:
• DFO will issue a Variation Order to open the fishery at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 1st.
• The individual trip limit per vessel will be 10,000 lbs
• Once 50 % (125 t) of the remaining quota is harvested, the fishery will be closed for the season.
Weekend closures will also be in effect for this opening.
