Fisheries Research & Liaison Officer 

Job Description:

Responsible to the PEIFA Board of Directors, while under the direction and reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

Liaise with Association members in their communities and fishing areas to encourage development of appropriate fisheries research projects and resource management programs for various marine fisheries.
Provide critical scientific analysis of proposals while encouraging full participation and control of projects/programs by participating fishers.  
Provide professional services by way of proposal preparation, researching and obtaining funding from various sources, oversight and direction of successful project applications, data analysis and data management from active projects; timely report writing and information distribution to fishers and Association bodies.
Liaise with various levels of government and public agencies to promote the interests and needs of PEI marine fishers and increase the scope of scientific information garnered and distributed to the Association members.

Required Skills:
Demonstrated ability with a variety of computer software programs
Ability to travel regularly throughout the province as well as occasional attendance at regional and national meetings. A personal vehicle is required 
Demonstrated training and knowledge of marine fisheries science and/or fisheries resource management.  
A recognized Science degree is preferred however a combination of education and personal experience in the fishery will be considered. 
Ability to interact positively with fish harvesters.
