Reporting directly to the Project Lead, the Gear Retrieval Technician will work to collect, enter and analyze data related to ghost gear retrieval projects undertaken by the PEI Fishermen’s Association in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Oceans. The technician will be required to communicate with project participants in all 3 Lobster Fishing Areas (LFAs) around Prince Edward Island. The Technicians duties may include but are not limited to:
· Organization and input of data collected from gear retrieval activities
· Proficient use of Microsoft Excel
· Coordination of individual contracts with Captains
· Coordination of meeting preparation for various Lobster Advisory Committees
· May involve some field work particularly site visits to various wharves.
· Other tasks as required.
Requirements:
· Experience using MS Word and Excel
· Excellent organizational skills
· Attention to detail
· Good communication skills – must communicate with fishing industry partners, harvesters and supervisors daily
· Ability to multi-task, handle sensitive and confidential information and prioritize.
· Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle for transport to various wharves (will be compensated for mileage to field locations only)
· Must be willing to learn and follow protocols and data entry techniques.
Compensation: $20 per hour
· Hours per week: 37.5
· Number of weeks: 12
· Daily work hours will depend on retrieval activities and timing.
· Location: Prince Edward Island Fishermen’s Association, 420 University Avenue, Charlottetown, PE
· The start date is as soon as possible with retrieval activities beginning in July.
