2010 Prince Edward Island – ATLANTIC HALIBUT (4T)
FIXED GEAR FLEET
SECOND OPENING DATE
Moncton – September 3, 2010
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is announcing a second opening of the PEI fixed gear fleet sector directing for the Atlantic Halibut fishery.

Following consultations with industry representatives, it was decided that participants who have registered for the first opening of August 31st will be eligible to participate and will be required new licence conditions for the second opening. In an attempt to reduce fishing efforts and to avoid any quota overrun, the duration of the fishery and number of hooks will be reduced.

The fishery will take place over a period of 10 hours starting at 7:00 a.m. on September 16, 2010 and ending at 5:00 p.m. on September 16, 2010. This period may be modified due to inclement weather or other uncontrollable circumstances.

A maximum of 400 hooks will be permitted during this fishery.

The remaining allocation for the 4T Atlantic Halibut Prince Edward fixed gear fleet will be 8 metric tons.
