2014 Recreational Groundfish Fishery (Including Cod) - Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence

Moncton, NB – June 30, 2014 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) today approved the recreational groundfish fishing seasons with limited access to cod and white hake in the waters adjacent to the Maritime Provinces in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.

In the waters adjacent to the Province of New Brunswick:
From sunrise to sunset each day from July 12 to August 17, 2014
In the waters adjacent to the Province of Nova Scotia from the border of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to Cape North, Victoria County:
From sunrise to sunset each day from August 2 to September 7, 2014
In the waters adjacent to the Province of Prince Edward Island:
From sunrise to sunset each day from August 30 to October 5, 2014
Recreational fishers will be able to retain, in any day, a bag limit of 15 (fifteen) groundfish of all species including a total of not more than 5 (five) cod and/or white hake in the aggregate, and 0 (zero) retention of skate, Atlantic halibut, northern wolfish, Atlantic wolfish, and spotted wolfish.

Groundfish fishing within 50 meters of coastline

The recreational groundfish fishing season within 50 meters of the coastline will resume, where applicable:

In the waters within 50 meters of the coastline adjacent to the Province of New Brunswick:
April 26 to July 11 and August 18 to October 5, 2014
In the waters within 50 meters of the coastline adjacent from the border of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to the Government wharf at Auld’s Cove, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia and, from the old wharf at Creignish, Inverness County, Nova Scotia to Cape North, Victoria County Nova Scotia:
April 26 to August 1 and from September 8 to October 5, 2014
Recreational Fishers will be able to retain, in any day, a total of 15 (fifteen) groundfish of all species in the aggregate except 0 (zero) cod, white hake, skate, haddock, pollock, Atlantic halibut, northern wolfish, Atlantic wolfish, and spotted wolfish.

In the waters adjacent to the Province of Prince Edward Island:
From sunrise to sunset each day from April 26, August 29, 2014
Recreational Fishers will be able to retain, in any day, a total of 5 (five) groundfish of all species in the aggregate except 0 (zero) cod, white hake, skate, haddock, pollock, Atlantic halibut, northern wolfish, Atlantic wolfish, and spotted wolfish.
