The PEIFA is pleased to announce an update to our Vessel Infrastructure for Maintenance of Lobster Vitality Program. Two amendments have been made to our contribution agreement with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans under the Atlantic Fisheries Fund including:

  • - A timeline extension of 1 year, the new deadline is now February 18th, 2022.

  • - An increase of funds per fisher, the current maximum of $3000 has been increased to a new maximum of $4500 – this increase is effective as of January 21st, 2021.

As of January 2021, there have been 954 individual projects completed over the span of 3 years from 753 Island fishers who have taken advantage of the program either through a single claim or multiple claims. As a result, 3.3 million dollars has been cost-shared between fishers and the Atlantic Fisheries Fund for this project.

There is also an updated application form for this project to ensure the PEIFA is receiving all required information when filling out your claim, it can be found here

These changes are in effect as of January 21st, 2021. Any questions regarding the program can be directed to Jennifer Dewland at the PEIFA Office (902)566-4050 Extension #6.
